Eesti avangardi ühe juhi, Leonhard Lapini emblemaatiline “Autoportree Veenusena” on üks eesti aktikunsti ikoonilisemaid teoseid, mille KGB selle esmaeksponeerimise ajal Draakoni galeriis käskis näituselt koristada. Sügavtrükitehnikas Lapini porgandpaljas autoportree on eneseteadlik pastišš kunstiajaloos alates renessansist levinud lamavas asendis alasti Veenuse kujutamisele. Teos on rahvusvaheliselt kõige tuntumaid Leonhard Lapini teoseid ning esimene eesti meeskunstniku alasti autoportree – ja sellisena omas žanris siiani haruldane.

The emblematic “Self-Portrait as Venus” by Leonhard Lapin, one of the leaders of the Estonian avant-garde, is one of the most iconic works of Estonian nude art, which the KGB ordered removed from the exhibition during its first exhibition at the Draakon Gallery. Lapin’s carrot-naked self-portrait, made in intaglio technique, is a self-conscious pastiche of the reclining nude Venus that has been common in art history since the Renaissance. The work is one of Leonhard Lapin’s most internationally known works and the first nude self-portrait by an Estonian male artist – and as such, it is still rare in its genre.
